About PureHouse Water
PureHouse Water is an independent buyer’s guide for well-water and whole-house filtration.
We research, write, and fact-check every guide on this site before it publishes.
What we actually do
Every page starts with a real question a well owner is trying to answer, usually because something just went wrong: a smell, a stain, a lab result that came back higher than expected.
From there:
- We read the primary source first. EPA and CDC guidance, university extension programs (Penn State, Minnesota, others by topic), NSF/ANSI standards, and peer-reviewed research where it exists. Manufacturer spec sheets and cost-data aggregators fill in pricing and product specifics, always cited separately from the government and university sources.
- We match the fix to the water, not the commission. If a $300 iron filter solves your problem, that’s the recommendation, even when a $2,000 system pays more. Every pick gets an honest downside and a “who should skip this” — a recommendation with no tradeoff isn’t a recommendation, it’s an ad.
- We say what we don’t know. If a claim isn’t traceable to a source, it doesn’t go in the guide. Where research came up short on something (real-time community discussion on a specific contaminant, for instance), the page says so instead of quietly filling the gap.
- Every guide goes through the same process: a research pass against primary sources, a draft against our documented editorial standards, an on-page accuracy check, and a final review before it publishes. No page ships as a single unreviewed draft.
What we don’t claim
PureHouse Water doesn’t run its own product lab, and no one on our editorial team is a licensed engineer or a certified water treatment specialist.
We won’t claim first-hand testing results until that’s actually true.
Until then, every performance number on this site is attributed to the manufacturer, a standards body, or an independent source, not to “our testing.”
When that changes, this page will say so, with specifics.
